IMM 101
Build a solid foundation in impact measurement and management
Impact Frontiers is offering a course for individual learners seeking a solid foundation in impact measurement and management. This “IMM 101” course is designed to meet the needs of those newly entering this field or seeking to update their knowledge.
The program will include monthly meetings over a six-month period, with workshops, examples and exercises, structured peer sharing and feedback, and guest expert sessions.
Program Curriculum
The program is divided into six sessions:
1. Kick-off
What is impact, and why is it important? What is IMM? This session will address these and related questions, setting up the material delved into more deeply in subsequent sessions.
2. Getting Started
Build foundational knowledge of topics such as theory of change and the 5 dimensions of impact, andapply to them to a case study.
Deepening Your Impact Management
Strengthen and expand your impact management foundation through the ABC of impact, applied to acase study. Also, explore a framework for the role metrics play in impact management.
4. Who Creates Impact, and How?
What roles do enterprises and investors play in creating impact? Learn the key elements of enterprise and investor contribution and apply them to a case study.
Process Perspective
Bring it all together — walk through a step-by-step overview of the impact management process and hear from an expert guest speaker on this topic.
6. Conclusion
To conclude, and to solidify the concepts and practices covered in previous sessions, this session reviews key learnings and helps you plan the next steps for implementing them.
CASE at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business
The Center for the Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship (CASE) is an award-winning research and education center based at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. Since 2002, CASE has been a leader in the field of social impact and impact investing, serving as a hub for research, teaching, and practitioner training.
CASE has worked with thousands of impact organizations, funders, and field-builders to connect theory to practice. CASE specializes in developing practitioner-friendly training and tools to equip impact leaders to succeed and scale their impact. CASE Smart Impact Capital is a professional impact investing program that has been in continuous use since 2016 by over 95 accelerator, fund, and university cohorts. CASE partnered with the UN Development Programme to launch a Coursera course that has trained over 8000 enterprises and investors to enhance their practices around Impact Measurement and Management for the SDGs.
Cathy Clark
Cathy Clark is Faculty Director at CASE at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business and Founding Director of the CASE i3 Initiative on Impact Investing. Cathy is globally recognized as a collaborative visionary and pioneering influencer in the fields of social entrepreneurship and impact investing. She has been named a B the Change Champion, Social Innovation Thought Leader of the Year in 2020 by the World Economic Forum, and one of 2021’s top 12 Agents of impact by ImpactAlpha.
Previously, Cathy was an investor at Flatiron Partners, a philanthropist at the Markle Foundation, and a policy convener at the Aspen Institute. She holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BA from the University of Virginia.
Rhia Ventures
Rhia Ventures’ mission is to advance reproductive and maternal health equity by intentionally leveraging capital to center the needs, experiences, and perspectives of historically marginalized people in decision-making. The multibillion-dollar health care market has tremendous potential for public health impact, but it has been built on flawed systems that perpetuate unjust outcomes for women of color, low-income women, and others directly affected by systemic inequities. Our work is to transform this market. Operating in a novel impact space, we seek opportunities to move investment toward reproductive and maternal health in a way that does not perpetuate harm and that will yield measurable, sustainable improvements in health outcomes.
